There is an extraordinary range of work that a voice reel can give you access to, yet less than 35% of Spotlight and Mandy members have voice reels. Get ahead of the game, get a voice reel specifically designed for your voice.

We offer a bespoke service. Unlike many other voice reel providers who work from stock scripts, we will help you find material that suits your particular voice. You will have to do some research finding material, but we will help you choose the most appropriate content. The fee ( see below) covers four hours of tuition on Zoom with Chris Wallis, followed by an hour in a professional studio on Deansgate, Manchester. In that hour we will record four reels : audiobook, documentary, commercials and one other to be chosen after discussion. It could be singing or a drama reel. The recordings will be edited and music beds added where appropriate. You will choose the music with our guidance.
Based in Manchester, Chris started NVR because actors kept asking him where they could get a reel made. He did some market research and came to the conclusion he could probably do it better and cheaper than many of the other studios. That’s because, unlike many voice reel suppliers, we are a producer-driven rather than an engineer-driven company.
Chris was a Senior Radio Drama Producer at BBC Manchester until he left and started Watershed which makes drama and readings for the R4 and R3. He has 25 years experience making BBC Radio Book at Bedtime and Book of the Week, and drama, and he even did a stint on The Archers. His most recent project was Death Of A Salesman by Arthur Miller, with David Suchet and Zoe Wanamaker for R3. He has produced more than 100 hours of audiobooks, with readers like John Le Carre, most of the Drs Who, and John Kani, who read Nelson Mandela’s Autobiography, which Chris recorded in South Africa.
Chris has also taught at various drama schools, including Radio at ALRA, MMU and E15; Introduction to Acting at Mountview- one of his students was Eddie Marsan, so he must have got that right – and this year he taught Sight Reading and Voice Reels at Royal Central.
Our engineer is Luke Staniland, a very experienced music and speech engineer.
Together we will help you create reels to maximise your casting potential.
We will help you source and record the material for four reels – Commercials; Audiobook; Documentary; One other that shows off something you haven’t already given, like singing, or a particularly good accent – for £350. That price requires you to do research on your own account, but guided by us. Other packages are by negotiation. If you would like to know more, please get in touch.
If you know what it is you want to record, and just want us to produce it, get in touch for a price and a time.
